ABB today announced its charging technology to be used in the 9th season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championships. At that time, the company will play a new role in the series as an official charging supplier.
ABB has developed a compact, reliable and safe solution for charging new third-generation vehicles before and during the race, in cooperation with the motorsport management agency, the FIA and the engineers of Formula E racing. ABB Formula E Racing Charger is designed in a rugged, customized and ergonomic way for easy global transportation and installation.
Each charger can provide the maximum power of 160kW, and can charge 80kW for two vehicles at the same time before the race. This allows the fleet to benefit from the "dual charging" capability of one unit, thereby significantly reducing the charger footprint and reducing transport emissions as one unit per vehicle is no longer required.
