MPV is equipped with independent power supply, vacuum pump, hydraulic device and cab. The vehicle battery can be used for 4-6 hours after charging, which is enough to complete the regular night shift work.

Epiroc is one of the world's leading suppliers of underground mining and infrastructure equipment. It has developed a modular and scalable electronic powertrain platform for MPV equipped with Northvolt batteries. The platform is equipped with four ABB new AMXE heavy duty motors. These motors have compact design, built-in permanent magnet structure and water-cooled design, and are very suitable for harsh environments and demanding applications. The motor is controlled by ABB's rugged universal HES880 water-cooled frequency converter, which has been proven in traction, marine and auxiliary applications.
Erik Svedlund, marketing director of Epiroc Rocvolt's business development department, said: "The Railcare MPV project has expanded our scope of cooperation, and we have started to use ABB motors and frequency converters in a new generation of underground mining vehicles. The concept of electronic power train was originally designed for the mining industry, but the project shows that it is also suitable for other types of vehicles that operate in harsh environments and are driven by traditional diesel engines."
In addition to eliminating diesel engine emissions, one of the greatest advantages of MPV is the reduction of noise levels. This is particularly important because track maintenance vehicles often work at night. Thanks to its dual characteristics of zero emission and low noise, MPV can also be applied to new railway maintenance applications, such as subway systems and long underground tunnels in large mines.
The MPV prototype is currently being tested in Sweden and is expected to be put into production in 2021. Railcare is planning to produce three such vehicles in Scandinavia and the United Kingdom to replace the old diesel powered vehicles in its fleet, thus establishing the operation business of MPV. Railcare will then sell these vehicles to customers worldwide.
