Commission Regulation EU 2019/1781, amendment (EU) 2021/341 sets new requirements for electric motors and variable speed drives.

M2BAX series marine three-phase induction motors are ABB’s latest generation of low voltage marine motors, suitable for marine applications like pump, fan, hydraulic machinery, etc.

M2BAX series marine motors conform to the requirements from ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, GL, KR, LR, NK, RINA societies. The efficiency level reaches IE2, equivalent to Grade 3. ABB marine motors are being widely used in shipbuilding industry.

This latest Ecodesign Regulation (EU) 2019/1781 came into effect in October 2019 and it applies to low-voltage induction electric motors rated at less than 1,000 V alternating current (AC) and to variable speed drives (VSD). The regulation will be implemented in two steps starting on July 1, 2021. The second stage, which expands the scope further and increases the requirements for motors, commences two years later, on July 1, 2023.

Variant codes specify additional options and features to the standard motor. The desired features are listed as three-digit variant codes in the motor order.

Note also that there are variants that cannot be used together. Most of the variant codes apply to IE2 and IE3 motors. For details please contact you ABB sales office before making an order.
